Black Hole Theatre
Founded in 1993, Black Hole Theatre (BHT) is an independent company that develops and presents puppetry and cross-art form performance in collaboration with artists from every field. Under the leadership of Artistic Director Nancy Black, BHT also facilitates the work of emerging artists, provides skill development opportunities, collaborates with local and international artists and companies, and contributes to the evolution of contemporary puppetry.
BHT is renowned for innovative, cutting edge productions that include: And The Ass Saw The Angel, Caravan, Coop, Lost In Tranzit, Hutch, Into The Black Hole, Where The Wild Things Sing, Les Méduses, Blind, and recently, The Book Of Revelations. Since 2012 BHT has also produced ten innovative Puppet Slams in regional and metropolitan venues, lifting the profiles of local artists and developing new audiences. 2018 includes more tours for Les Méduses, a season of Blind in NYC, the development of an exciting new project The Line, and a few other projects in the community. Awards: In 2003, Nancy Black received a Green Room Award for Outstanding Direction in Independent Theatre for Caravan. In the Beginning received a Green Room Award nomination for Nancy Black as Best Director of a New Form in 2007. The 2008 production of Coop won 3 Green Room Awards in the Alternative Theatre category: Best Production, Best Lighting and Best Sound.
