Rachel Edmonds is a non-binary actor, writer, theatre maker and producer with a disability from Melbourne. Since graduating from The National Theatre Drama School in 2016, Rachel has worked mainly in theatre. Their award winning original show Have you tried yoga? was performed to sold-out crowds at the Adelaide and Melbourne Fringe Festivals last year, taking home the Access and Inclusion Award at Melbourne Fringe.
In 2018 Rachel also produced and performed for Quippings at the Melbourne Writers Festival and took part in Melbourne Fringe’s Compass Navigate program. Edmonds’ writing has appeared in publications including Australian Poetry Journal and Voiceworks. In January, their first full length play, When I had braces, was selected by Midsumma Festival and Gasworks among three finalist for Midsumma’s Playtime Staged Readings event.
Rachel’s screen credits include: Neighbourhood Watch (Database Productions), Hysteria (Directed by Samwell Cheng) and Interrupt (Harpling Productions). In 2017 Rachel assistant directed the play Asylum (Owl and Cat Theatre) and has worked as an accessibility consultant for many shows. Rachel is dedicated to increasing opportunities for disabled and deaf/Deaf artists and audiences in the community.
2019 brings a new challenge as Rachel prepares to welcome their first child into the artistic realm.
